Deployment Adaptation

I just came up with another feature in combination with Soplets, I called it Deployment Adaptation. The name sounds rather unwieldy, but I think it is a pretty neat feature to have.

The base idea: Even if the code is compiled and the application is deployed, you can change the content of the Soplets, be it for a hot-fix (without redeploying the application), or by adapting the application to a local environment (=”configuration”). There are also some other use cases - just have a look at the updated Prezi (at the “How to use Soplets?” section), and tell me what you think about it…

here some impressions from the Soplets Workshop 06.06.2011 in Stuttgart…

Thanks again to DV-Ratio and Mr. Nast for the generous sponsoring of the event!

CM: I just created a list of Soplet related research proposals - pick your favorite!… ;)

CM: Slightly off-topic, but man, this guy (Gavin) is really kicking asses…

Extended Enums

CM: Fred Simpon from JFrog had posted time ago (2009) a patch/propsoal for enhancing enumerations by making them extendable. He had sent me his original proposal, and together we set up a new web site at http://www.extended-enums.org/ for promoting this great idea!

Please please please vote for this proposal!!! If there is enough traction cances are high that it will make it into Java8 (scheduled for 2012). It would be just a big bonus for Soplets (and many other projects) having extendable enumerations, as this is one of the main technical limitations we encounter (and a completely unnecessary and nuts limitation btw…)

P.S.: See also http://www.soplets.org/documentation/thisandthat/java-language-extension for more details
